• Osteoporosis is a progressive bone disease that weakens the bones and increases the risk of fracture.

• It is a silent disease because bone loss occurs without symptoms.

• It makes the bones porous and so that they will break more easily.

• Women and older adults are  at risk for developing osteoporosis.

• It is characterized by

  • reduction in BMD (bone mineral density)

  • deterioration of bone tissue

  • increase in bone fragility

  • Causes the risk of fractures
